What to Expect at Heritage Bible College

ISOW and Heritage are dedicated to your success and have partnered together to give you more options in pursuing your education. Heritage Bible College is nationally accredited and therefore has certain standards that must be maintained, so here’s what ISOW students need to know to get started:

Your completed ISOW courses will be converted to HBC credits using a formula.

8 ISOW steps or lessons = 1 credit hour at HBC

There are 120 total hours in a degree. Your transfer credits will be applied to one of the following categories based on the best fit. Students transferring credit to Heritage must complete or have completed the required number of HBC credit hours in each of these program categories:

HBC Program Categories Required Credit Hours
·       General Studies 36
·       Bible-Theology 45
·       Professional Studies 9
·       Ministry Track 18-24
·       Electives 6-12
Entire Bachelor’s Degree 120

Your ISOW transcript will be evaluated and a print-out of the number of HBC credit hours and their categories will be shared with you. This will be updated as you complete more courses.

Regardless of the number of transfer credits from ISOW or other accredited colleges, a minimum of 30 credit hours must be taken at HBC (accreditation requirement).

You can apply online at heritagebiblecollege.edu. Additional documents will be required later. The Admissions Department will help you through the process.

You must also request official transcripts from your high school, ISOW, and any other college that you attended to be sent directly to the Admissions Department from those institutions.

Part of the online application is the request for recommendation from your pastor (or other church leader) and from someone else who knows you but is not related.

If you are going to use federal financial aid (PELL Grants or student loans), you will have to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. The school code for HBC is 030893.

You will go through an online orientation to get you familiarized with taking an online course and learning various aspects about Heritage Bible College.

All courses at HBC (except practicums) are 8-week courses. There is a specific start date and a specific end date. There are two 8-week sessions in the fall semester and two 8-week sessions in the spring semester. There is one 8-week session in the summer.

There are attendance requirements. Each week you will have some sort of assignment that must be turned in during that week for you to be considered “present” for that week. You may also have tests or other projects during the course that will be graded.

You can expect there to be research papers and/or other writing assignments. Plagiarism is not tolerated.

Each HBC course will have a discussion forum which requires your participation. Here you will interact with other students and your instructor.

Text books are a part of every course. Readings in your textbook are assigned each week. The required text for each course will be listed on the online course page which is accessible once you register. Textbooks can be purchased at amazon.com or other book sellers.

You will have access to your instructor for questions and help. Contact information is a part of the course syllabus that will be available at your course site.

To graduate, you must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4 point scale.
