THE WATER CRISIS

THE WATER CRISIS
1.7 billion people drink water contaminated with feces
Almost one-quarter of the world’s population consumes water that contains fecal contamination — water that is unsafe to drink. [1]
Unsafe water contributes to more than 485,000 deaths each year
Contaminated drinking water and poor sanitation are linked to hundreds of thousands of deaths annually. [2]
Diarrheal disease from unsafe water kills more children than HIV/AIDS, malaria, and measles combined.
Unsafe water disproportionately impacts children under 5, claiming thousands of young lives daily [3]
About 1,000 children under age 5 die every day from illnesses caused by contaminated water
This statistic focuses emotional urgency on young children’s vulnerability. [4]
More than 2.1 billion people globally drink water from sources that are not protected from contamination
These include unprotected wells and springs — places where pathogens easily enter the water supply. [5]
Over 60% of people in the least developed countries rely on unimproved or unsafe drinking water sources
Unsafe water access is strongly tied to poverty — making clean water a justice issue. [6]
Clean water is not guaranteed.
Behind every number is a family. A child. A future cut short.
Dirty water is a preventable crisis.
Isaiah 58:10–11 (NLT)
“Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness… The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength.”
Proverbs 11:25 (NIV)
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

A Path to Clean Water:
The crisis is real. The solution is practical.
ISOW is working within the 10/40 Window, one of the most underserved regions of the world, to help bring sustainable access to clean drinking water.
We are partnering with trusted local groups to install wells and implement water purification systems that provide long-term, reliable sources of safe water. These solutions are designed to serve entire communities, not just individual households.
Clean water changes everything.
It improves health.
It protects children.
It strengthens families.
It opens doors for education and opportunity.
This is not short-term relief.
It is lasting impact.
The cost of providing clean water varies by country and typically ranges from $1,000 to $5,000.
