In the 21st century church, the terms “revivalist” or “evangelist” can mean a number of things to different people. Many confuse evangelism with outreach, but they are not the same. The evangelist has a specific role laid out in Scripture, a role that the western church does not often adhere to. The evangelist is an office of ministry that has implications for the leadership structure and theological foundations of the church as well as revival and outreach. Join instructor Rick Lairsey as he aims to establish a strategy that effectively changes the trajectory of the integral work of the revivalist as a gift to the church.

Rick J. Lairsey, an Ordained Bishop with the Church of God, is a National Evangelist and founder of Flashpoint Ministries, Inc. Known for his Word-centered message of hope and healing, he accepted his ministry calling at 13. His experiences of brokenness enable him to minister with sensitivity. A 1979 high school graduate from Barnwell, South Carolina, Rick studied at Lee University until 1982, later earning a Bachelor’s in Pastoral Studies and a Master’s in Ministry Leadership. He served as State Evangelist for Texas and pastored churches in Mississippi, Virginia, Georgia, and Maryland before focusing on evangelism in 2002. With 32 years of ministry, he has served on Church of God boards and spoken at camp meetings and conferences. Rick, a father to three sons—Chris, Tyler, and Zachary—and “Papa” to seven grandchildren, lives in Cleveland, Tennessee. At ISOW School of Ministry, his courses at isow.org inspire hope, aligning with the Church of God’s mission.
